Bengaluru: A 46-year-old man was found dead inside a luxury car parked on the main road in Bengaluru’s Koramangala on Sunday morning, with police suspecting that he may have died due to health complications.

The deceased has been identified as Salim Akbar, a native of Kodagu. Police were alerted around 8 am after a man was spotted unresponsive inside an Audi parked around 400 metres from the Koramangala police station.

Police reached the spot and found Akbar inside the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has since been shifted for autopsy, which is expected to help establish the exact cause of death.

Car parked near restaurant around 2.30 am

Preliminary investigation found that the Audi had been parked in front of Sagar Fast Food in Koramangala’s 8th Block at around 2.30 am.

Police verified the timing using CCTV camera footage from the area. The vehicle remained parked there until Akbar was found inside it several hours later.

A police officer said preliminary indications suggested that Akbar may have died because of a health-related complication. However, the officer stressed that the exact cause of death can only be determined after the forensic examination and autopsy.

At present, police said there was no suspected foul play in the case.

Police find no immediate signs of foul play

After the man was found unresponsive, police conducted an initial examination of the vehicle and the surrounding area.

Scene-of-crime personnel and forensic investigators also inspected the car as part of the investigation. The examination is expected to help determine whether there were any circumstances inside the vehicle that could have contributed to Akbar’s death.

An unnatural death report has been registered, and police said further investigation is underway.

While health complications are being considered as the likely explanation, police have not ruled on the final cause of death until the autopsy and forensic findings are available.

Family informed about death

Akbar’s brother has been informed about the incident and was expected to reach Bengaluru for the necessary procedures.

Police have begun the formal process following the recovery of the body, including the post-mortem examination. The final medical report will be important in establishing whether Akbar died from a medical emergency or another cause.

The case has not, at this stage, been treated as a suspected murder or other criminal death, with officers saying no foul play is currently suspected.

The CCTV footage from the area has helped investigators establish when the Audi arrived and was parked near the restaurant.

According to the preliminary findings, the vehicle pulled over at around 2.30 am. Akbar was discovered inside the car at approximately 8 am after police were alerted.

The six-hour gap between the vehicle being parked and the discovery of Akbar is part of the sequence being examined by investigators.

Police are continuing to gather information and will compare the CCTV footage, forensic findings and autopsy report before determining the exact circumstances of the death.
