A 36-year-old man died after falling from a packed moving suburban train shortly after boarding near Dombivli, police said.

The deceased, identified as Tejas Pawar, was travelling to attend the funeral of a relative in Dadar.

Fell after boarding crowded train

According to Thane Government Railway Police, Pawar and a relative initially tried boarding a Mumbai-bound train at Diva station, but heavy crowding prevented them.

They then travelled in the opposite direction and boarded another train at Kopar station.

Police suspect Pawar remained on the footboard while his relative managed to enter the coach.

Lost grip near Diva

Senior inspector Archana Dusane said he likely lost his grip and fell as the train approached Diva.

He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

His relative reportedly remained unaware of the accident and continued the journey to Dadar.

Call for more train services

Following the incident, commuter activist Rajesh Ghanghav urged authorities to increase suburban train services on the Thane sector to reduce dangerous overcrowding.

Overcrowding concern continues

The tragedy has once again highlighted the risks of extreme congestion on Mumbai’s suburban railway network, where passengers often travel hanging at doors during peak demand.
