Murder after drinking session near bar
According to police, the accused, Basudev Mallick (30), and the victim, Sunil Nayak (42), both construction labourers, had consumed alcohol near a bar in RK Township Layout on the night of March 25.
During the night, Mallick allegedly slit Nayak’s throat with a knife, killing him on the spot. He later stuffed the body into a plastic gunny bag and attempted to dispose of it.
Body discovered after victim reported missing
Nayak’s wife, Pushpa, grew concerned when he failed to return home and was unreachable. On March 26, she informed their landlord about his disappearance.
While searching the area, family members discovered a suspicious gunny bag in an empty space near the bar. Upon opening it around 4 pm, they found Nayak’s body, following which police were alerted via the emergency helpline.
Police investigation leads to arrest
The Hebbagodi Police registered a murder case and began investigating. Based on clues and witness accounts, officers traced and arrested Mallick.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. Police have also recovered the weapon used in the हत्या.
Motive linked to personal intentions
Investigators revealed that Mallick had allegedly developed feelings for Pushpa and believed that eliminating Nayak would remove an obstacle.
He also told police that Pushpa had previously confided in him about domestic issues, including alleged abuse by her husband when intoxicated. However, officials clarified that Pushpa has no role in the crime.
Further probe underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronics City) M Narayana confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to gather additional evidence and complete legal procedures.
