Bengaluru: A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his polio-stricken uncle following a dispute over vacating a leased house in Austin Town, with police later arresting the accused after the victim’s son raised suspicion over the circumstances of the death.
The victim, identified as Inayat Pasha (52), a mechanic by profession, was found dead in his bed at a ground-floor residence in Austin Town on the evening of March 1. Initially believed to be a natural or accidental death, the incident took a dramatic turn after family members suspected foul play and approached the police.
According to investigators, the accused, Masroor Ahmed (22), allegedly assaulted his uncle during an argument over vacating the property, which ultimately led to the victim’s death.
Victim found dead in house
Police said that Pasha had been staying in a house leased from his elder sister, Husna Banu, in Austin Town. On March 1, around 6.45 pm, family members discovered him lying motionless inside the house.
Ahmed and his mother allegedly informed Pasha’s son, Syed Mohammed, that they had come to the house to give food to Pasha but found him unconscious near the door. They reportedly said they tried to wake him but he did not respond.
However, Mohammed grew suspicious about the explanation and believed there could be more to the incident. He subsequently approached the police and filed a complaint seeking a thorough investigation into his father’s death.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and began questioning members of the family.
Police interrogation reveals alleged assault
During the investigation, police picked up Ahmed for questioning. According to police sources, the accused allegedly confessed to attacking his uncle during an argument earlier that day.
Investigators said Ahmed had visited the house around 4.30 pm on March 1 to speak to Pasha about vacating the property.
Police said the family had repeatedly asked Pasha to vacate the premises, but he had continued to stay there. This issue had reportedly caused tension within the family for some time.
During the conversation, the argument reportedly escalated. According to police, Ahmed alleged that Pasha abused him and issued threats during the confrontation.
Argument turns violent
As the altercation intensified, Ahmed allegedly assaulted Pasha. Police said the accused hit the victim on the face, eyes and ribs, leading to severe injuries.
Investigators believe the assault resulted in Pasha’s death shortly afterwards.
After the incident, Ahmed and his mother allegedly attempted to portray the situation as if Pasha had been found unconscious when they arrived to give him food.
However, inconsistencies in their statements and the complaint filed by the victim’s son prompted police to examine the matter more closely.
Investigation and legal action
Police officials said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the death.
The body of the deceased was sent for a post-mortem examination, which will help confirm the exact cause of death.
Investigators are also gathering statements from family members and neighbours to understand the background of the dispute and verify the accused’s claims.
Officials said such cases highlight how property-related disagreements within families can escalate into serious crimes if conflicts are not resolved peacefully.
Growing concern over family disputes
Law enforcement officials note that disputes over property and housing are among the common triggers behind violent incidents within families in urban areas.
Experts say increasing urban property values, tenancy disagreements and financial pressures sometimes lead to prolonged conflicts among relatives.
Police emphasise the importance of resolving such disputes through legal or mediation channels instead of allowing arguments to escalate into violence.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities are expected to file charges after completing the probe and reviewing forensic reports.
