A routine journey to work turned fatal for a 34-year-old man after a garbage truck allegedly hit his scooter and ran over him near Sirsi Circle on Mysuru Road on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Satish, a resident of Goripalya near JJ Nagar. He was employed as an attender at a private firm near Town Hall and had left home for work as usual when the accident occurred.

According to police, Satish was riding towards Town Hall at around 9.30 am. As he approached the busy Sirsi Circle junction, a GBA garbage truck reportedly collided with his scooter.

Victim crushed under truck’s rear wheel

The impact of the collision threw Satish onto the road. Before he could recover, he came under the rear wheel of the truck and suffered fatal injuries.

Passers-by rushed to the spot, but Satish died on the spot due to the severity of the injuries, police said.

The accident caused temporary traffic congestion in the area as police and emergency personnel carried out initial investigations and cleared the roadway.

Driver questioned by police

Following the incident, Chamarajpet Traffic Police detained the truck driver, identified as 36-year-old Narasimhalu, for questioning.

As part of the investigation, police conducted an alcometer test on the driver to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol. The test result was negative, officials confirmed.

A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to the accident.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in Bengaluru, particularly involving heavy vehicles operating on busy city roads during peak hours.

Police have urged motorists to remain vigilant and follow traffic regulations, while authorities continue efforts to improve safety at major junctions across the city.
