Bengaluru police have taken into custody a 37-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a college-going woman, authorities confirmed.

The accused, identified as Ashraf, reportedly managed a women’s paying guest (PG) accommodation in the Soladevanahalli locality. According to police reports, the survivor, a woman in her early twenties, had moved into the PG two weeks before the incident occurred.

The First Information Report (FIR), accessed by Deccan Herald, mentioned that the woman is currently pursuing her studies. In her complaint filed on August 2, she alleged that around midnight on August 1, Ashraf coerced her into his vehicle under the pretense of providing food and a place to stay. He then allegedly drove her to a room in a nearby building on the northern fringe of the city and assaulted her sexually after urging her to “cooperate.”

A police official stated, “Following the woman’s detailed complaint, we registered a case, arrested the accused, and presented him before the court. He has been placed in judicial custody.” Authorities also confirmed that the woman would undergo a medical examination to support the claims made in her complaint. Additionally, her official statement is scheduled to be recorded shortly.

Interestingly, Ashraf has also filed a counter-complaint, asserting that he was physically attacked by the woman’s friends in connection to the incident.

The investigation remains active as officials work to verify all claims and ensure justice is served
