Bengaluru: A dramatic incident unfolded outside the prestigious Bangalore Club on Lavelle Road on Wednesday after a man allegedly arrived in an intoxicated condition, stripped naked during an argument with security staff and was nearly run over by a car amid the commotion. Police have registered multiple cases in connection with the episode involving the man, a security guard and a car driver.
According to police officials, the man has been identified as Raj Ananth, a local resident who claimed that his father is a member of the elite private club. The Bangalore Club is one of the city’s oldest and most exclusive institutions, with a long membership waiting list and strict entry rules.
Argument at gate escalates
Police said Ananth came to the club premises and demanded entry but was stopped by security personnel at the gate as he was not authorised to enter on his own. An argument reportedly broke out between him and the guards on duty.
As the confrontation intensified, Ananth allegedly began behaving erratically and removed his clothes in public, creating a disturbance outside the club entrance. Officers said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and may also be mentally distressed, though medical assessment is awaited.
The commotion drew attention from passersby and motorists in the busy Lavelle Road area, leading to further chaos near the entrance.
Video shows near run-over moment
A video of the incident, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the man standing in front of a car near the gate area while shouting. The vehicle is then seen moving forward, with the man ending up on the bonnet for a brief moment before falling onto the road and crying out in pain.
Police said they are examining the video footage as part of the investigation to determine the sequence of events and whether the driver attempted to push through deliberately or was trying to leave the scene amid the disturbance.
Officials added that the exact speed of the vehicle and the level of threat perception felt by the driver at that moment are being assessed.
Assault allegation against guard
During preliminary inquiry, Ananth alleged that one of the security guards assaulted him during the altercation. Based on his complaint, police have registered a case against the concerned guard for alleged assault.
At the same time, officers noted that the guard and other staff were attempting to control a volatile situation at the entrance involving an allegedly intoxicated individual creating a public disturbance.
Statements from club security staff, witnesses and the driver are being recorded to corroborate the claims from all sides.
Cases registered against three parties
Police confirmed that separate cases have been registered in connection with the incident. One case has been filed against the security guard based on the assault complaint. Another case has been registered against the car driver in relation to the near run-over episode seen in the video.
A separate case has also been booked against Raj Ananth for causing public nuisance and disorderly conduct. Additional sections may be added depending on medical reports and further evidence review.
Authorities said they will also verify the man’s claim regarding his father’s membership and whether he had any valid authorisation to enter the premises.
Investigation underway
Investigators are collecting CCTV footage from the club entrance and nearby buildings to reconstruct the full timeline of events. Medical examination reports, including intoxication status and injury assessment, will form part of the case file.
Police said appropriate legal action will follow based on evidence and that all parties involved will be questioned in detail. The club management has not issued a formal public statement so far.
Conclusion
The incident outside one of Bengaluru’s most exclusive clubs has drawn attention due to the public disturbance and the viral video of the near collision. With cases filed against the guard, driver and the man involved, police said the matter will be pursued through due legal process after reviewing all footage and witness accounts.
