Bengaluru: A 30-year-old man surrendered before police in Bengaluru after allegedly killing his brother-in-law over suspicions of an illicit relationship involving a family member, officials said.
The accused, identified as Srinivas, a dog kennel owner from Bairappanahalli, reportedly drove to the Bannerghatta Police Station earlier this week and confessed to the crime. Police have taken him into custody and initiated further investigation.
Dispute within family escalates
The victim has been identified as Ranjith (24), who is the younger brother of the accused’s wife. According to police, tensions had been building between the two over allegations of an inappropriate relationship involving Srinivas’s younger sister, who is married.
Officials stated that the issue had led to repeated disputes within the family, eventually culminating in the fatal incident.
Incident near Bannerghatta
Police said the accused allegedly called Ranjith to a location near Bannerghatta on the pretext of resolving the ongoing disagreement. During the meeting, an altercation reportedly broke out between the two.
During the confrontation, Srinivas allegedly attacked Ranjith using a metal rod, striking him on the head. The victim succumbed to injuries at the scene, according to preliminary findings.
Accused surrenders before police
After the incident, the accused placed the body in his car and drove directly to the police station. Upon reaching the station, he reportedly informed officers about the incident and surrendered.
Police officials confirmed that the accused was immediately taken into custody, and necessary legal procedures were initiated.
