In a major push towards environmental conservation and urban sustainability, the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), in collaboration with Dhare Foundation, has launched an ambitious mission to create a “Green Ring” around Bengaluru by planting two crore saplings.

The initiative aims to strengthen the city’s green cover, improve ecological balance, and combat growing environmental challenges linked to rapid urbanisation.

Two crore saplings to strengthen green cover

Under the project, large-scale plantation drives will be carried out across areas surrounding Bengaluru to create a continuous green belt around the city.

Officials said the mission is intended to improve air quality, support biodiversity, reduce urban heat, and contribute to long-term climate resilience.

Environmental experts have repeatedly warned about shrinking green spaces and rising pollution levels in Bengaluru due to rapid infrastructure growth and population expansion.

Focus on sustainability and public participation

Organisers said the project would involve government agencies, volunteers, educational institutions, environmental groups, and local communities to ensure long-term impact and maintenance of the saplings.

The initiative also aims to raise awareness about environmental responsibility and encourage citizens to actively participate in conservation efforts.

Observers noted that creating a green buffer around Bengaluru could help preserve ecological balance while enhancing the city’s environmental health.

Bengaluru’s environmental concerns remain significant

Over the years, Bengaluru has faced increasing concerns related to deforestation, traffic pollution, loss of lakes, and declining tree cover.

Environmental activists have often stressed the need for sustained afforestation drives and stronger ecological planning to protect the city’s future.

Officials associated with the “Green Ring” mission expressed hope that the initiative would become one of Karnataka’s largest urban environmental projects.
