On July 24, 2024, Bengaluru was jolted by a disturbing incident involving a mattress shop owner and his former employee. The complainant, Sharif, who previously worked at Shakshavali’s mattress manufacturing shop in Uttarahalli, has accused his former employer of severe physical and mental abuse. Sharif, originally from Andhra Pradesh, had quit his job at Shakshavali’s shop just a month prior to the incident.
According to Sharif’s complaint, the ordeal began when Shakshavali allegedly entered Sharif’s new workplace uninvited. The shop owner is accused of forcibly stripping Sharif naked and recording the entire episode on video. The video, which later went viral on social media, has been pivotal in bringing the incident to light. Sharif also claims that he was confined against his will during this distressing episode.
The video, showing the horrifying act, quickly spread across social media platforms, prompting widespread outrage and concern. The viral nature of the footage has added significant pressure on law enforcement to act swiftly and decisively.
Following the surfacing of the video, Sharif lodged a formal complaint with the Subrahmanyapura police. The complaint alleges not only physical assault but also mental torture, which has left Sharif deeply traumatized. The police have taken the matter seriously and have issued a notice to Shakshavali, summoning him for questioning.
The investigation is now underway, with authorities scrutinizing the video evidence and gathering testimonies from witnesses. The case has sparked a broader conversation about workplace harassment and the need for stronger protections for employees. In response to the allegations, Shakshavali has yet to provide a public statement. As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on ensuring justice for Sharif and addressing the severe misconduct reported.
