Bengaluru: Consumers in Bengaluru can now order Meghalaya‘s premium pineapples through Swiggy Instamart, marking a significant step towards connecting farmers from the northeastern state with a larger urban retail market.

The initiative is expected to improve market access for growers while enabling customers in Bengaluru to enjoy fresh, high-quality pineapples sourced directly from Meghalaya.

Premium pineapples flown to Bengaluru

The pineapples are being procured from the Jirang Organic Farmer Producer Company and transported by air to Bengaluru to ensure freshness. On the Swiggy Instamart platform, the fruit is listed as “Pineapple (From Meghalaya)”, allowing customers to identify its origin and distinguishing it from produce sourced elsewhere.

Officials said the initiative creates a faster and more efficient supply chain, helping farmers receive better returns while ensuring fresh produce reaches consumers in a shorter time.

Festival success boosts demand

The online launch follows the successful 4th Meghalaya Pineapple Festival held at Dilli Haat in New Delhi, where nearly 30 metric tonnes of pineapples were sold over three days.

Officials said the strong response at the festival reflected the growing demand for Meghalaya’s premium pineapples beyond the northeastern region and encouraged efforts to expand sales through digital platforms.

Boosting market access for farmers

The Meghalaya government has been working to strengthen marketing channels for its agricultural produce through collaborations with leading e-commerce and agri-trade platforms.

As part of this strategy, the state has entered into partnerships with Flipkart and NCDEX e Markets Limited to improve market connectivity for farmer-producer organisations.

Officials said the latest collaboration with Swiggy Instamart will further enhance the visibility of Meghalaya’s agricultural products in major cities while creating better marketing opportunities and higher incomes for local farmers.

The initiative is also expected to encourage more consumers to explore produce from India’s northeastern states through quick-commerce platforms.
