Bengaluru: The South Western Railway has announced partial cancellation and regulation of two MEMU trains due to ongoing engineering works at the yard in Ramanagaram. The temporary changes will affect services operating between Ashokapuram and KSR Bengaluru on March 5 and 6.

Railway authorities said the modifications are necessary to facilitate essential maintenance and infrastructure upgrades at the Ramanagaram yard to ensure operational safety and improved efficiency of train movements in the section.

Train 66580 to be curtailed on March 5

Train number 66580 Ashokapuram–KSR Bengaluru MEMU, scheduled to run on March 5, will operate only up to Channapatna. The service will remain cancelled between Channapatna and KSR Bengaluru on that day.

Passengers intending to travel beyond Channapatna towards KSR Bengaluru have been advised to make alternate travel arrangements. Railway officials stated that necessary announcements will be made at stations en route to inform commuters about the temporary curtailment.

The Ashokapuram–KSR Bengaluru MEMU service is widely used by daily commuters, including office-goers, students and small traders travelling between Ramanagaram district and the State capital. The partial cancellation is expected to inconvenience regular passengers, particularly during peak hours.

Train 66579 to originate from Channapatna on March 6

Similarly, train number 66579 KSR Bengaluru–Ashokapuram MEMU, scheduled for March 6, will originate from Channapatna instead of KSR Bengaluru. The train will remain cancelled between KSR Bengaluru and Channapatna on that day.

Passengers planning to board the train from KSR Bengaluru towards Ramanagaram and Mysuru side have been advised to check updated schedules and consider alternative trains or transport options.

Railway authorities clarified that the changes are temporary and limited to the specified dates. Normal services are expected to resume once the engineering works at the Ramanagaram yard are completed.

Engineering works for safety and efficiency

According to railway officials, the engineering works at the Ramanagaram yard involve track maintenance and related infrastructure upgrades. Such works are periodically undertaken to enhance safety standards, improve track stability and ensure smoother train operations.

Officials emphasised that while temporary disruptions may cause inconvenience, these measures are essential for maintaining long-term safety and reliability of rail services. The Bengaluru–Mysuru corridor is one of the busiest routes in the region, and regular maintenance is crucial to handle increasing traffic.

Advisory to passengers

Passengers are advised to:

  • Verify train schedules through official railway enquiry services before commencing their journey.
  • Arrive at stations early to avoid confusion.
  • Consider alternative trains operating on the same route where feasible.

Railway authorities have expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and have sought cooperation from the travelling public during the maintenance period.

With the rapid growth of suburban and intercity travel in and around Bengaluru, infrastructure upgrades are being prioritised to strengthen connectivity between key towns such as Ramanagaram and Channapatna and the State capital.

Normal MEMU services on the affected routes are expected to resume after completion of the engineering works as per schedule.
