The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the alleged owner of the ‘Bangalore Metro Chicks’ Instagram account, refusing to quash criminal proceedings over the alleged posting of objectionable and non-consensual videos of women travelling in Bengaluru Metro.

Court strongly objects to women being unsafe

Justice M. Nagaprasanna, while hearing the matter, orally expressed concern over the lack of safe public spaces for women and criticised the alleged conduct in strong terms.

The court observed that women were not being left safe even inside the metro and took serious note of allegations that women were secretly filmed from different angles and the clips were uploaded online.

Accused arrested in 2025

According to reports, B K Diganth, a 27-year-old accountant from Karibonahalli, was arrested in May 2025 in connection with the case.

At the time, the Instagram page reportedly had more than 6,000 followers and over 1,000 Telegram subscribers, drawing significant engagement through reels and shared content.

Charges continue before Bengaluru court

The criminal case is presently at the summons stage before an Additional CJM Court in Bengaluru.

Proceedings were initiated based on a suo motu complaint by Banashankari Police Station. Charges include alleged offences under provisions relating to stalking, furnishing false information and publishing obscene material online.

Technical grounds rejected

During arguments, counsel for the petitioner reportedly contended that no obscene material was posted and questioned the role of the investigating officer as complainant.

However, the High Court made it clear that technical objections cannot override the seriousness of the alleged act and refused to interfere in the proceedings.

The petition was accordingly dismissed
