The Baiyappanahalli police have arrested a suspected motorcycle thief who allegedly operated across several districts in Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh, recovering 11 stolen two-wheelers worth approximately ₹7.5 lakh.
The accused was apprehended near the Chinnasandra bus stand in Chintamani, Chikkaballapur district, on May 24 following a police investigation into multiple vehicle theft cases.
Thefts reported across two states
According to police, the suspect had allegedly been involved in stealing motorcycles from various locations since 2022. Areas affected include Indiranagar and Hoskote in Bengaluru, as well as Chintamani, Srinivaspur and Chittoor.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicles and transporting them to a garage in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, where they were concealed.
Police recover stolen vehicles
Based on information provided by the accused, a police team conducted a follow-up operation on May 25 and recovered all 11 stolen two-wheelers from the garage.
The recovered motorcycles have been seized and are expected to be returned to their rightful owners after the completion of legal procedures.
Investigation continues
Police officials said further investigations are underway to determine whether the accused was part of a larger vehicle theft network and to identify any accomplices who may have assisted in the crimes.
The arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb the growing menace of vehicle theft in Bengaluru and neighbouring regions.
Authorities have urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and adopt security measures such as parking in designated areas and installing anti-theft devices.
