Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to address key railway infrastructure issues in the region. The discussions focused on improving rail connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, particularly addressing challenges on the Shiradi Ghat stretch, a crucial route for the region’s economic and passenger transport.
Chowta submitted a formal letter urging the merger of Konkan Railway with Indian Railways, a move that could streamline operations and improve efficiency. He also highlighted the importance of doubling railway tracks between Bengaluru and Mangaluru to enhance connectivity between the state capital and coastal Karnataka.
Additional concerns included better passenger facilities on regional routes and enhancing rail services between Subrahmanya and Mangaluru. Chowta also emphasized these issues on social media, seeking the attention of the state government to expedite action.
This push aligns with the Union Cabinet’s recent approval of railway projects worth ₹7,927 crore, indicating the possibility of accelerated development in the region’s rail infrastructure
