In an unusual theft case, unidentified individuals stole painkiller tablets valued at ₹4.9 lakh from a locked container truck en route from Goa to Bengaluru.

Basavaraj, 53, a manager at Surat Goods Transport Pvt Ltd, filed a police complaint stating that the theft happened sometime between 6 p.m. on May 9 and noon on May 12. The truck, owned and driven by Shahi Kumar G, was carrying around 567 cartons of medicines, including Brufen 400 mg tablets, shipped by Abbott India Pvt Ltd.

Upon arriving at the company’s Nayandahalli branch on May 12, the staff noticed that only 517 boxes were present—50 cartons were missing. When questioned, Kumar said he had parked the truck near Bankapura toll in Haveri at around 3 a.m. on May 10 to rest and stayed there until 7 a.m. He reached Bengaluru later that day around 4 p.m. and parked the truck near his home in Bommanahalli, Nelamangala.

Since May 11 was a Sunday and the office was closed, he stayed home and only brought the vehicle to the company the next day. Kumar claimed to be unaware of when the theft occurred and noted the truck’s lock was undisturbed.

Basavaraj said they reviewed CCTV footage near the toll booth and Kumar’s residence but found no leads, causing a delay in filing the FIR. Each missing carton is valued at ₹9,800. Police registered the case on May 20 and are interrogating Kumar as part of the investigation.
