Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has lauded a fresh initiative aimed at reviving the once-familiar practice of metered auto rides in the city. In a post on X, he recalled, “Remember the good old days when Bengaluru autos ran by the meter? @NagaraAuto is bringing that back. With their app, you can hail an auto that charges only the meter fare with no hidden costs & no commission. The fare on the meter is what you pay directly to the driver.”

The new platform, Nagara Auto, has been jointly developed by Agnibu Technologies and Brand Pride Mobility. Unlike most aggregator apps, it ensures passengers pay strictly according to government-approved meter fares, eliminating negotiations and surge pricing.

To make identification easier, every auto linked to the service carries a distinctive marker on its roof, which glows at night, helping riders spot them quickly.

The initiative is being spearheaded by young entrepreneurs Niru Aradhyan and Shivanna, who aim to solve Bengaluru’s long-standing challenge of first- and last-mile connectivity, particularly for metro commuters. With rising complaints about steep commute costs across aggregator platforms, the move has been welcomed as a refreshing alternative.

Since its launch in 2023, the service has already attracted over 1,500 auto drivers, with plans to expand across more parts of the city. By focusing on affordability, visibility, and rider convenience, Nagara Auto is positioning itself as a fair and reliable mobility option in Bengaluru’s evolving transport landscape.
