Bengaluru: A 29-year-old woman from Nepal is battling for life at the burns ward of Victoria Hospital after her husband allegedly attempted to kill her by pouring around five litres of paint thinner on her and setting her on fire.
The incident occurred near Chandapura Circle within Suryanagar police limits at around 8 pm on Monday.
Woman runs out of burning house
The victim, identified as Ganga Kumari, reportedly managed to escape from the house after being set on fire. She ran outside and doused herself with water.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident rushed to her aid and shifted her to the hospital in an ambulance.
Kumari sustained severe burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital.
Husband arrested
The accused, identified as Mahesh Bahadur, works as a security guard. He is reportedly an alcoholic and had allegedly been frequently fighting with his wife.
Police arrested Bahadur following the incident and registered a case of attempted murder against him.
The circumstances leading to the attack are being investigated by the police.
Couple had moved to Bengaluru for work
Kumari and Bahadur had reportedly come to Bengaluru around 10 years ago in search of employment.
The couple’s two children are currently in Nepal.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged attack and the circumstances surrounding the couple’s domestic disputes.
