Bengaluru: A decades-old building in Central Bengaluru came crashing down on Thursday afternoon, leaving one person injured, according to local police.
The incident took place near Sampangi Rama Nagar, where the dilapidated structure, built on a 20×20 plot and estimated to be over 50 years old, suddenly gave way around 1 pm.
Authorities said one occupant was inside at the time of the collapse. The injured person was promptly rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently being monitored.
Police and emergency personnel swiftly arrived at the scene and began combing through the debris to ensure no one else was trapped. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
Officials suspect the weakened state of the structure, possibly worsened by recent weather conditions, contributed to the incident. They are now assessing the safety of nearby buildings and will likely issue advisories to residents in similar old constructions.
This collapse comes shortly after a similar tragedy in Delhi’s Civil Lines, where a woman and her son lost their lives due to a wall collapse during heavy rains. The frequency of such incidents highlights the growing need for strict structural audits, especially of older buildings in urban areas.
Civic authorities have urged residents to report visibly unstable buildings and to cooperate with safety inspections to prevent future mishaps.
