Bengaluru: Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, in association with OpenText as the Title Sponsor, formally announced the 19th OpenText Presents Bengaluru Walkathon during a press conference held at the Press Club of Bengaluru. The inclusive public movement is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026, at Kittur Rani Chennamma Grounds, Jayanagar, with a renewed focus on advancing the theme ‘Health for All’.
The press conference marked the official launch of one of Bengaluru’s most prominent community-driven initiatives, dedicated to raising awareness and mobilising collective support for persons with disabilities and individuals from underserved communities. The Walkathon has, over the years, evolved into a powerful platform that brings together citizens, corporates, institutions, and civil society to advocate inclusivity, wellbeing, and equal access to healthcare.
Press conference and unveiling of official Walkathon T-shirt
Addressing the media, Dr Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Founder and Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, highlighted the Walkathon’s growing relevance as a collective movement for social change. He was joined by Mr Manoj Nagpal, Managing Director and Vice President – Professional Services, OpenText India.
A key highlight of the press conference was the unveiling of the official Walkathon T-shirt, which symbolises solidarity, inclusion, and collective participation for the cause. The T-shirt launch underscored the spirit of unity that defines the Walkathon, encouraging people from all walks of life to participate and support the initiative.
Walkathon aligned with World Disability Day and ‘Health for All’
Held annually to commemorate World Disability Day, observed on December 3, the Bengaluru Walkathon aligns closely with the global and national emphasis on inclusive development. The 2026 edition continues to resonate with the theme ‘Health for All’, promoting equitable access to healthcare and holistic wellbeing for all sections of society.
Now in its 19th edition, the Walkathon has consistently championed the need for inclusive healthcare systems that address the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of persons with disabilities and marginalised communities. The event also encourages healthy lifestyles while fostering greater awareness about disability inclusion and social equity.
By creating a shared platform for participation, the Walkathon reinforces the importance of building a society where every individual—regardless of ability—can thrive with dignity and equal opportunity.
Leaders emphasise inclusion and collaborative impact
Speaking at the press conference, Dr Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar remarked that the Bengaluru Walkathon has grown into a movement that reflects shared responsibility towards a healthier and more inclusive society. He noted that the theme ‘Health for All’ is not merely symbolic, but a call to action to ensure equal access to healthcare and wellbeing for every individual.
Mr Manoj Nagpal, Managing Director and Vice President – Professional Services, OpenText India, reaffirmed OpenText’s commitment to inclusion and social responsibility. He highlighted that this marks OpenText’s second association with the Bengaluru Walkathon and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between corporates and civil society in creating sustained social impact and strengthening inclusive communities.
