A total of 1,72,151 students have registered for the second PUC examination-2, which is set to begin on Thursday, according to the Department of School Education and Literacy.
Mix of repeaters and improvement candidates
Of the total registered candidates, 82,746 students had failed in the 2026 PUC examination-1 and are reappearing.
Additionally, 49,512 students who had passed earlier have opted to improve their scores.
Officials said 39,099 repeaters and 794 private candidates will also be appearing for the exam.
Exam pattern adjusted this year
This year, the department has decided to cancel the third examination, citing a higher overall pass percentage.
Authorities said the move aims to streamline the examination process while still providing opportunities for students to improve or clear subjects.
Key opportunity for students
Exam-2 is considered crucial for students seeking to qualify for higher education admissions or improve their academic performance.
Education officials have urged candidates to follow guidelines and prepare well for the exams.
