Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) reported that 73,959 Ganesha idols were immersed across the city on Thursday, marking the second day of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
This figure adds to the 2.19 lakh idols that had already been immersed on the festival’s first day, taking the total count to nearly 2.93 lakh idols so far.
BBMP’s immersion arrangements
To ensure smooth and environmentally safe idol immersions, the BBMP deployed mobile tankers and created multiple immersion points across Bengaluru. These included both permanent and temporary tanks set up in lake premises and designated public areas.
Officials confirmed that the civic body monitored each immersion site to maintain cleanliness and avoid pollution of natural water bodies.
Environmental measures
Authorities also stressed the importance of using eco-friendly clay idols and avoiding materials that could harm aquatic ecosystems. Special awareness campaigns were run ahead of the festival urging devotees to choose non-toxic colours and biodegradable decorations.
Conclusion
With several days of celebrations still remaining, BBMP officials expect the total number of idol immersions to cross three lakh by the end of the festival. Additional mobile tankers and temporary tanks are being prepared to handle the final surge of immersions.
