A man battling paralysis in Bengaluru has allegedly been cheated of ₹70,000 by two fraudsters who promised a complete recovery through a special treatment programme.

Lakshman, a resident of Kalyan Nagar near Chandra Layout, approached the police after discovering that the individuals who claimed they could cure his condition had disappeared shortly after collecting the money.

False promise of recovery

According to the complaint, Lakshman had been undergoing treatment for paralysis for several years when two men visited his residence. The duo introduced themselves as practitioners associated with a reputed spiritual centre in Malleswaram and claimed they could help him regain his mobility.

The men allegedly prepared a herbal drink using cumin seeds and assured Lakshman that he would be able to walk again within 20 days if he followed their treatment plan. They also promised daily visits and therapeutic massages as part of the programme.

Trusting their claims and hoping for improvement in his condition, Lakshman paid ₹70,000 for the treatment.

Accused vanish after receiving money

Police said the suspects became unreachable soon after receiving the payment. Repeated attempts to contact them reportedly failed, raising suspicion about the authenticity of their claims.

Seeking answers, Lakshman later visited the spiritual institution in Malleswaram that the men claimed to represent. Officials there informed him that the suspects had no association whatsoever with the organisation.

Police launch investigation

Following the complaint, the Chandra Layout Police registered a case and began an investigation. Officers have collected CCTV footage from nearby areas and are working to identify and trace the accused.
