Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the elevated section of Namma Metro’s Pink Line on November 13, marking a major expansion of Bengaluru’s Metro network beyond the 100-km milestone.
The 7.5-km elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere along Bannerghatta Road will be opened for passenger services following the inauguration. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya announced the date, stating that the Prime Minister would travel by Metro from Tavarekere to IIMB-Bilekahalli station and formally launch the services.
With the addition of this stretch, Bengaluru’s operational Metro network will increase from 96.1 km to 103.6 km, making it the second-largest operational Metro network in India after Delhi.
Seven stations on the elevated stretch
The elevated section will connect Kalena Agrahara with Tavarekere and include six stations:
- Kalena Agrahara
- Hulimavu
- IIMB
- JP Nagar 4th Phase
- Jayadeva Hospital
- Tavarekere
The Jayadeva Hospital station will provide an interchange with the operational Yellow Line, improving connectivity for commuters travelling between Bannerghatta Road, Electronics City and other parts of Bengaluru.
The new stretch is expected to provide an additional public transport option for residents in south Bengaluru, particularly those travelling along Bannerghatta Road.
Safety clearance received in October
The 7.5-km elevated section received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on October 28, 2026, following inspections and assessments of the infrastructure, signalling systems and passenger safety arrangements.
The clearance paved the way for the commencement of passenger services, subject to the prescribed safety conditions.
The elevated corridor is part of the 21.25-km Pink Line, which connects Kalena Agrahara in south Bengaluru with Nagawara in the north.
Underground section expected to open in 2027
While the elevated section is ready for inauguration, work on the remaining underground stretch between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is continuing.
The underground section will connect several important parts of the city, including areas around MG Road and Shivajinagar. It is expected to become operational in 2027.
Once the entire Pink Line is completed, it will provide an important north-south Metro connection, linking residential areas in south Bengaluru with central and northern parts of the city.
Metro network set to cross 100-km mark
The inauguration will mark an important milestone in Bengaluru’s public transport expansion, taking its operational Metro network beyond 100 km for the first time.
Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the government would continue working towards expanding the Metro network to 170 km by 2027.
The new elevated section is expected to improve connectivity for commuters and provide another alternative to road travel in a city facing growing traffic congestion.
