Bengaluru: The first spell of pre-monsoon showers brought relief from the summer heat across Karnataka on Tuesday, with several regions witnessing rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

In Bengaluru, intense rainfall was accompanied by lightning and strong winds, followed by a brief hailstorm in areas such as Sanjayanagar, Yelahanka and Devanahalli.

Widespread rain across city

Several other parts of the city, including Konanakunte, Kanakapura Road, RR Nagar, Banashankari 6th Stage, Sampigehalli, Kathriguppe and Horamavu, reported moderate to heavy rainfall.

The showers provided immediate respite from rising temperatures and humid conditions.

IMD confirms hailstorm

N Puviarasan, head of the meteorological centre at the India Meteorological Department in Bengaluru, confirmed that the hailstorm activity lasted for a short duration.

Temperature dips after rain

The rainfall had a noticeable impact on temperatures in the city. The maximum temperature dropped by 1.3°C to 32.3°C in Bengaluru, while at the HAL airport it fell by 1.2°C to 32°C.

Helpline issued for emergencies

The city’s disaster management team has advised residents to reach out for assistance via helpline 1533 or WhatsApp number 94806 85700 in case of emergencies arising from the weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the coming days across several districts, including:
