Bengaluru: A 28-year-old man allegedly strangled his four-month pregnant wife to death before dying by suicide at their residence in Bengaluru’s CK Achukattu area on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Manoj (28) and his wife Swapna (26), natives of Uttar Pradesh who had been living in Bengaluru for several years.

Domestic dispute suspected

According to police, Manoj worked as a carpenter, while Swapna was a homemaker. The couple had been married for three years and lived with Manoj’s parents.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by a domestic dispute. Police suspect the couple had an argument at their home before the deaths.

Investigators alleged that Manoj strangled Swapna using a nylon rope, reportedly used as a leash for the family’s pet dog.

Husband allegedly died by suicide

Police said Manoj is believed to have used the same rope to hang himself from a ceiling fan after allegedly killing his wife.

Swapna was four months pregnant at the time of her death, officials confirmed.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 10.30 am. Family members discovered the couple and alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and carried out an inspection.

Investigation underway

The bodies have been shifted to KIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said Manoj had reportedly not been attending work for the past four days. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading up to the deaths and are awaiting the results of the post-mortem and forensic examinations.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
