Bengaluru Police has ordered an inquiry after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing a rowdy-sheeter and his associates felicitating a police inspector inside the RT Nagar Police Station premises.
The authenticity and date of the clip have not yet been officially confirmed.
Video sparks controversy
The viral video reportedly shows the inspector being honoured by the alleged rowdy-sheeter and members of his group within the police station campus.
The visuals triggered criticism online, with many questioning police conduct and association with criminal elements.
Inquiry ordered
B S Nemagoud said the matter has been assigned to the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Yeshwantpur subdivision.
The officer has been asked to conduct a detailed probe and submit a report.
Police said suitable action would be taken based on the findings.
Clip may be old, sources say
Sources indicated the video may be an old clip that was recently circulated.
There is also internal speculation that the footage may have been shared with an intention to trigger the transfer of the concerned inspector.
However, no official conclusion has been reached.
Previous concerns in department
The development comes days after protests against an inspector in Devanahalli over allegations of bribery and interference in civil matters.
