Bengaluru: Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested three young men for attacking a private college professor after he protested their littering on the road. The incident took place when the professor objected to the group, who were travelling in an auto-rickshaw, for carelessly tossing a plastic cup onto the street.

The arrested individuals — Bhanuprasad (26), Sharath (23), and Amruth Kumar (24) — are all residents of Ittamadu, Padmanabhanagar in Banashankari.

In his complaint, 46-year-old Arobindo Gupta, a Whitefield resident, mentioned he was riding his two-wheeler around 4:30 PM in Kumaraswamy Layout when he noticed the group’s act. When he questioned them, a heated argument broke out. Three of the four occupants jumped out of the auto and attacked him.

After getting medical treatment, Gupta posted a video online narrating his ordeal. Initially, police registered a non-cognizable report, later escalating it to an FIR.

A senior police official stated that Amruth was the auto driver, while Bhanuprasad and Sharath worked as food delivery executives. The trio, reportedly drunk during the incident, admitted to throwing the plastic glass after consuming liquor.

The altercation was sparked when Gupta questioned their littering, speaking in English. However, police clarified there was no regional or linguistic angle involved.

Authorities have booked the accused under relevant charges, and an investigation is underway.
