Lokayukta police have arrested a public prosecutor attached to a Bengaluru court for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a complainant in connection with a police case.
The accused has been identified as Savitha Naveen Patil (55), a public prosecutor serving at the City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH-54) in Bengaluru.
Bribe allegedly sought for filing objections
According to Lokayukta officials, Savitha allegedly demanded ₹5,000 from a resident of Banashankari to submit objections in a case registered at the CK Achu Kattu Police Station.
The complainant subsequently approached the Lokayukta police and lodged a complaint regarding the alleged demand for money.
Caught during trap operation
Based on the complaint, Lokayukta officials organised a trap operation to verify the allegation.
During the operation, Savitha was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the ₹5,000 bribe from the complainant. Officials immediately took her into custody and seized the tainted money as evidence.
The arrest forms part of the Lokayukta’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption within public offices and ensure accountability among government officials.
Investigation underway
A case has been registered against the accused under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether similar allegations exist and to gather additional evidence related to the case.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the continuing vigilance measures being undertaken by anti-corruption agencies to address complaints of bribery and misuse of public office.
