Bengaluru: Fitness professional, former police officer and wellness entrepreneur Pushpalatha Jinka has been selected for the ‘Women of Resilience’ honour at the Abhaya Bravery Award 2026 – Season 2, recognising her lifelong dedication to fitness, wellness, and social service, and her inspiring journey of discipline, compassion, and purpose.

The award ceremony will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5.00 pm onwards at the Alliance Française de Bangalore Auditorium, in association with the Bangalore Sports Lovers Association and Team Abhaya.

From a remote village to national recognition

Hailing from Kanneluru village in Jammalamadugu Mandal of Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, Pushpalatha Jinka’s journey is rooted in humble beginnings. Her father, Jinka Gurappa, retired as a Librarian with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, instilling in his children the values of education, integrity and quiet dedication. Her mother, Jinka Parvati, played a vital role in shaping the family through resilience, patience and sacrifice.

The fourth among five siblings, Pushpalatha grew up in a close-knit household where responsibility and perseverance were part of daily life. Her brother followed their father’s footsteps and currently serves as a government librarian, while her sisters dedicated themselves to homemaking.

Education and sporting excellence

Pushpalatha completed her education entirely in government institutions, with Telugu as the medium of instruction, earning a B.Sc. degree in Biology and Medical Botany. Alongside academics, sports became her strongest pillar.

She emerged as a District All-Rounder Champion in Athletics during her 10th standard, Intermediate, and Graduation years, winning medals at zonal and state levels and earning selection for national-level competitions. Although financial and family constraints prevented her from competing nationally, sports shaped her confidence, leadership, and discipline.

Service as a police officer

Driven by a desire to serve society, Pushpalatha appeared for the Andhra Pradesh State Police selections during her final year of graduation. She secured first place in physical fitness tests, performed strongly in written examinations, and was selected into service.

After completing police training in 2003, she served as a Police Officer in Kadapa for nearly two years, gaining firsthand experience in discipline, courage, and public service.

A pause that led to a powerful second innings

In 2006, Pushpalatha married A. V. Suman Mohan Kumar, then serving in the Indian Air Force. Following the birth of their son Hrushikesh in 2007, balancing motherhood, frequent transfers and a government job became challenging, leading her to take the difficult decision to resign from the police service.

Rather than an end, it marked the beginning of her second innings.

During her husband’s posting in Agra and later Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Pushpalatha enrolled in the Reebok India Certification Course in 2008 while caring for her infant son. Despite language barriers from a Telugu-medium background, she successfully completed the course and cleared the national examination in Mumbai, earning international certification.

Building a career in fitness and wellness

Pushpalatha went on to build an extensive professional profile, acquiring multiple national and international certifications in diet, nutrition, yoga therapy, rehabilitation, counselling, and fitness management. In October 2025, she trained in Singapore under renowned physiotherapy and rehabilitation expert Nelson Chong, mastering advanced myofascial and trigger point release techniques.

She has also served as a Dietician and Counsellor at the Indian Air Force Hospital, Training Command, Bengaluru.

In 2019, she and her husband were blessed with a daughter, Lakshitha. Following her husband’s voluntary retirement from the Air Force in December 2020, the couple established their wellness centre ‘FITNESS ERA’ at Devanahalli, Bengaluru, focusing on holistic fitness, therapy yoga, and rehabilitation.

Commitment to social service

With over 18 years of experience, Pushpalatha has dedicated the last eight years to community service, working with:

  • Orphanages and government schools
  • Special children and individuals facing psychological challenges
  • Elderly residents at retirement homes in North Bengaluru
  • Holistic wellness and parental guidance programmes

Her work continues to empower individuals through physical health, mental resilience, and emotional well-being.

Honouring resilience and purpose

The ‘Women of Resilience’ honour recognises Pushpalatha Jinka’s extraordinary ability to rise above limitations, embrace transformation, and serve society through discipline and compassion—making her journey a powerful example for women across generations.
