In a dramatic late-season shakeup, the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been relocated to Lucknow, thanks to persistent downpours in Bengaluru. Originally set for the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the May 23 showdown will now take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, but still be counted as RCB’s home fixture.
The IPL, in an official release on Tuesday, said the move was prompted by adverse weather and waterlogged ground conditions. The league has also taken a preventive step by extending the playing window by one hour for all remaining league matches, ensuring better flexibility in case of rain delays.
RCB, having already booked their playoff spot, will treat the game as a tune-up before the knockouts. For SRH, who are out of contention, it’s a matter of ending on a high after a spirited win against Lucknow Super Giants.
The venue shift is the latest twist in a season full of weather woes and logistical hurdles, as the IPL continues to navigate the unpredictability of late-summer rains.
