Residents and commuters using Sarjapur Road have raised fresh concerns over the poor condition of the stretch near Junnasandra lane, where ongoing roadworks and recurring waterlogging continue to disrupt daily travel.
Recent rainfall has once again exposed the challenges faced by motorists and pedestrians, with damaged road surfaces, stagnant water and incomplete civic works creating difficulties for thousands of commuters.
Road condition draws criticism
Images shared by residents on social media showed dug-up sections of road, broken concrete slabs and waterlogged patches near the entrance to Junnasandra lane, opposite the Wipro Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Several commuters complained that the road has remained under construction for months, with little visible progress despite repeated disruptions.
Residents said they initially welcomed road improvement works when the stretch was resurfaced. However, the road was subsequently dug up again to facilitate drainage-related infrastructure works, leaving the area in a deteriorated condition.
Commuters demand faster completion
Many daily users of the route have expressed frustration over the prolonged delays.
According to local residents, the road connecting Junnasandra Road and Sarjapur Road was asphalted before being excavated again for drain connectivity works. They claim the project has remained incomplete for several months, causing inconvenience and safety concerns.
The area serves as an important corridor for IT professionals, residents and commercial traffic travelling towards major employment hubs in east Bengaluru.
Waterlogging remains a challenge
Heavy rains have worsened conditions on the stretch, with water accumulation making movement difficult for pedestrians and slowing vehicle traffic.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-South) Gopal M Byakod said traffic movement remains manageable under normal circumstances. However, congestion tends to increase when heavy vehicles attempt U-turns near the affected section.
Traffic police have reportedly sought assistance from civic authorities to address the issue.
Residents seek permanent solution
Commuters are urging authorities to complete the pending drainage and road development works at the earliest to prevent recurring disruptions.
The situation has once again highlighted concerns over project planning and coordination, with residents questioning why roads are repeatedly dug up soon after being resurfaced.
Many hope the ongoing works will be completed soon, providing a lasting solution to waterlogging and improving road safety for daily commuters.
