Bengaluru: Residents have raised concerns over the alleged lack of enforcement against the use of single-use plastic and illegal dumping of garbage on footpaths and roads in Basavanagudi, questioning why civic authorities have not imposed penalties on violators.
The concerns were directed at officials of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Basavanagudi Marshals, who have been urged to take stricter action to curb violations affecting public spaces.
Residents seek stricter enforcement
According to social media posts, garbage and single-use plastic continue to be dumped on footpaths and roads despite regulations prohibiting such practices.
Residents alleged that inadequate enforcement has allowed violations to continue, affecting cleanliness, pedestrian movement and the overall civic environment in the locality.
Calls for penalties against violators
Citizens have urged the GBA and civic enforcement teams to impose fines on individuals and establishments found dumping waste or using banned single-use plastic products.
They said consistent enforcement and stricter penalties are necessary to deter repeat offenders and maintain cleaner public spaces.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority has not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of publication.
