Bengaluru: Congress leader Ivan D’Souza from Bengaluru demanded that the government release at least Rs 50 crore to farmers to control arecanut blight, which has affected farmers in various districts, including Dakshina Kannada, due to climate change. He cited an article published in a newspaper on July 21, highlighting the concerns of arecanut farmers facing losses due to blight disease and nut loss at the flowering stage.
MLA Bharat Shetty Y appealed to the assembly to encourage capital investment in tourism development in Dakshina Kannada district, which has the potential to change its image. He emphasized the need to gain local support and develop the area, creating employment opportunities and self-sufficiency. He suggested promoting temple tourism and developing beachside facilities.
During the question and answer session, Bharat Shetty Y proposed identifying more tourism spots in DK district, beyond the existing 37 identified projects. He requested grants for tourism and job creation to be released.
