Bengaluru: To curb the spread of dengue, the Health Department has proposed a new fine of Rs 500 for property owners who fail to maintain clean premises. This decision emerged from a recent meeting chaired by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, focusing on dengue control in the state, especially in Bengaluru.
Under the rules for preventing and controlling mosquito breeding and eradicating mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, municipal corporations, including the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), can impose a maximum penalty of Rs 50 on property owners who allow mosquito breeding.
During the meeting, Minister Rao highlighted that the current fine is insufficient, leading to the immediate decision to raise the penalty. The department is expected to issue the new order soon.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath confirmed the proposed increase in the fine. He also mentioned that several teams have been formed to visit around 14 lakh houses in the city to raise dengue awareness.
