A 24-year-old telecom sales executive has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a retired government employee of gold jewellery and other valuables worth ₹2.2 lakh near Yeshwanthpur Railway Station in Bengaluru.

The accused, identified as Amar BC from Kolar, was arrested by the Yeshwanthpur police within 24 hours of the incident, which took place on the night of June 14.

Retired employee robbed during night walk

According to police, the victim, a retired government employee, had checked into a lodge near Yeshwanthpur Railway Station on June 13 while travelling to Rajasthan to attend an event.

During a night walk near the lodge, Amar allegedly approached the victim, snatched his walking stick, assaulted him and robbed him of a 15-gram gold chain, a gold ring and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

A robbery case was subsequently registered at the Yeshwanthpur Police Station.

Accused arrested within a day

Acting on the complaint, police traced and arrested Amar near a lodge in Hoskote within 24 hours of the robbery.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed not only to the robbery but also to his involvement in a separate house-breaking theft case already registered at the Yeshwanthpur Police Station. Further investigation is underway.

Another robbery suspect arrested

In a separate incident, the Jnanabharathi police arrested another man for allegedly robbing a motorist after seeking a lift near Sonnenahalli.

Police said the accused allegedly snatched a 15-gram gold chain and a mobile phone worth around ₹1.70 lakh from the victim before escaping. The suspect has since been taken into custody, and the case is under investigation.
