Bengaluru: Police have registered a case against a private school in the city after a Class 5 student was allegedly beaten and locked inside a room by school authorities.
The incident took place on October 14 at a school located in Sunkadakatte, Magadi Road. According to police, the child’s mother alleged that principal Rakesh Kumar and teacher Chandrika assaulted her son with a PVC pipe and confined him in a room until late evening.
The boy, who has been admitted to hospital, reportedly suffered injuries from the thrashing. The principal was questioned and later released on bail. Officers said he admitted to hitting the child, allegedly over irregular attendance.
Similar Incident in Chitradurga
In a separate case, a student of a Pathashala (traditional school) in Nayakanahatti village, Chitradurga, was also allegedly assaulted by a teacher. A video of the incident shows the teacher, identified as Veeresh Hiremath, kicking and beating a fifth standard boy for making a phone call to his grandmother.
Following the viral video, the Education Department has launched an investigation into the matter.
