A school excursion ended in tragedy after two students from Bengaluru drowned in the River Cauvery during a trip to Talakad on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Charvi, aged 12, and Ramya, aged 16. Both were students of Auxilium Navajeevana Institution.
Trip with students and staff
According to sources, a group of 71 students and nine staff members had travelled from Bengaluru for the outing when the incident occurred.
During the visit, some students reportedly entered the river, after which several of them began struggling in the water.
Rescue efforts launched
Authorities and locals rushed to help, rescuing multiple students including Sujitha and others who were reportedly on the verge of drowning.
All were shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
However, doctors declared Charvi and Ramya dead.

The tragic deaths have left classmates, teachers and families devastated. What was meant to be a joyful educational trip turned into a heartbreaking loss for the school community.
Officials are expected to examine whether safety precautions, supervision and local warnings were adequate at the river site.
