With board examinations commencing this week, schools across Bengaluru have rolled out structured stress-management initiatives to support students of Classes 10 and 12.
The exam season began with the ISC Psychology paper on Thursday and will continue for nearly two months under various boards, including ICSE, ISC, SSLC, II PUC and CBSE.
Mentoring and emotional support
At Delhi Public School East, a structured mentor-teacher programme was introduced, assigning each mentor just two students. Principal Manila Carvalho said the initiative focused on students struggling with academic pressure, emotional fatigue or disengagement.
The mentoring continued during study holidays, with scheduled one-on-one check-ins to track progress and ease anxiety.
Meanwhile, New Baldwin International School offered sound healing therapy sessions. Students lay down in a closed room while calming sounds were played to improve concentration and reduce stress, said Principal Farah Shereen. The school also organised fun activities and campus bonfires for younger students to ease exam pressure.
Government High School, Ramagondanahalli, emphasised peer learning, weekly socio-emotional sessions and additional physical education classes. Teachers provided one-on-one counselling and structured study strategies.
At The Deens Academy, Principal Shanthi Menon advised students to sleep well, eat balanced meals and avoid last-minute cramming. Ryan International Academy shared structured revision plans with parents, while Presidency School South ensured counsellors were accessible throughout the exam period.
Expert advice for exam season
Dr John Vijay Sagar from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences stressed adequate sleep, hydration and positive self-talk. Nutrition consultant Anjana Nair advised avoiding junk food, consuming seeds, nuts and probiotics, and not overeating at night.
Authorities reminded students and parents of Tele Manas helpline numbers (14416 / 1800-89-14416) for mental health support.
