Tragedy struck the city on Wednesday evening after a wall at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar collapsed during torrential rain, killing at least seven people, including a child.
According to police sources, the incident was reported around 5.30 pm as heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed several parts of Bengaluru, causing widespread disruption.
Emergency teams and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the collapse. Rescue efforts were launched immediately to clear debris and search for possible survivors trapped under the rubble.
Sudden collapse during heavy rain
Preliminary reports suggest the wall gave way following intense rainfall that battered the area. The sudden collapse caused panic among people nearby, with eyewitnesses reporting loud sounds moments before the structure fell.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether the deceased were pedestrians, hospital visitors, or workers in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
Rescue and inquiry underway
Officials have shifted the injured and recovered bodies for further procedures. Senior civic and police officials visited the site and began an assessment of the damage.
An inquiry is expected to determine whether structural weakness, poor maintenance, or rain-related damage led to the collapse.
