Bengaluru: A 22-year-old woman from Sikkim was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend at their rented accommodation in Bengaluru’s Doddakanahalli area following a dispute over suspected infidelity. The accused has been arrested, and police have launched an investigation into the case.

Incident reported in Doddakanahalli

The victim has been identified as Ati Hangma Subba, who was working as a receptionist at a salon in Bengaluru. According to police, she was living with her boyfriend, Purba Lepcha, at a rented house in Doddakanahalli under the Bellandur Police Station limits.

Lepcha, a native of Darjeeling, was employed as a waiter at a hotel in Bengaluru. The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for some time before moving to the city.

Police said the incident came to light on Sunday after information about the alleged murder was received from the locality.

Couple moved to Bengaluru a month ago

Preliminary investigations revealed that Subba and Lepcha had relocated to Bengaluru around a month ago and had started living together.

The young couple had rented accommodation in Doddakanahalli while pursuing their respective jobs in the city. According to investigators, they had been adjusting to their new life in Bengaluru when tensions reportedly developed between them.

Police sources said relationship-related disputes may have escalated in the days leading up to the incident.

Argument allegedly turned violent

According to the initial investigation, an argument broke out between the couple after Lepcha allegedly suspected Subba of being involved with another person.

During the altercation, he allegedly attacked her with a kitchen knife. Police said the woman suffered severe injuries after her throat was allegedly slit during the attack.

Subba died due to the injuries sustained in the assault, officials said.

The exact sequence of events is being verified through forensic evidence and witness statements.

Accused arrested by police

Following the incident, Bellandur police launched an operation and took Purba Lepcha into custody.

He has since been arrested and is being questioned by investigators. Police are gathering evidence from the crime scene and recording statements from individuals who may have knowledge of the couple’s relationship and recent interactions.

Officials said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.

Investigation underway

Police have registered a case and are examining all aspects surrounding the alleged murder.

Investigators are also reviewing the couple’s background, communication records and any prior complaints or disputes that may help establish the motive behind the crime.

Authorities stated that the investigation would be carried out in accordance with legal procedures, and a detailed report would be prepared based on the evidence collected.

Growing concern over relationship-related crimes

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about crimes arising from personal disputes and relationship conflicts.

Experts often stress the importance of addressing relationship issues through communication, counselling and legal avenues rather than resorting to violence. Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage people facing emotional distress or domestic conflicts to seek professional help and support.

Conclusion

The alleged murder of Ati Hangma Subba has shocked residents of Bengaluru and members of the Northeastern community living in the city. With the accused now under arrest, police are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
