The Karnataka government has finalized Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout near Kengeri as the site for Bengaluru’s ambitious 250-metre sky deck project, Deputy CM and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Saturday.

Earlier plans to build the tower at Hemmigepura were dropped due to proximity restrictions near the airport and land ownership conflicts with NICE. “The BDA-owned land in Kempegowda Layout is suitable and expected to get metro access in the future,” Shivakumar said. Officials revealed a 25-acre plot has been earmarked for the project, which is aimed at boosting city tourism with sweeping panoramic views.

In a parallel urban clean-up drive, Shivakumar said footpath shops across Bengaluru will be cleared. “Street vending will be systematized. BBMP has surveyed 27,665 vendors and we will provide pushcarts to those registered,” he said. Vending zones will be designated, and vendors must vacate by evening after business hours.

To reduce congestion, the government is also considering merging service roads with main carriageways in metro construction areas. “We’ve discussed this with the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), who are preparing an action plan,” he added.

Abandoned vehicles will also be cleared, with a dedicated dumping site to be identified. Officials will enforce new ‘No Parking’ zones as part of the traffic overhaul.

Shivakumar further stated that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be functional by September 15, following the BBMP split under the new governance act.
