A striking aerial video of the newly constructed Bengaluru–Chennai Greenfield Expressway has captivated social media, with its sweeping cloverleaf interchanges and lush surroundings drawing comparisons to “world-class” infrastructure.
Built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost exceeding ₹17,930 crore, the 10-lane expressway is partially open and set for full launch by June 2026. Once operational, it will cut travel time between the two metros from seven to just three hours.
Netizens praised the engineering marvel, calling it “fantastic” and “visionary,” with visuals showcasing long stretches of smooth tarmac bordered by greenery. One user wrote, “This is what true nation-building looks like,” while another quipped, “Can’t wait to pay ₹200 on a ₹17,930 crore road built using my taxes!”
However, the admiration was tempered by criticism. Some questioned the toll fees on taxpayer-funded infrastructure, while others raised concerns about durability: “Will it hold up during monsoon?”
The expressway, spanning 260 km, passes through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, concluding at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Designed for speeds up to 120 kmph, it represents South India’s first greenfield expressway.
But despite its cutting-edge design, the expressway has already made headlines for a string of fatal accidents, prompting the government to ban two-wheelers, autos, and tractors on certain stretches.
Still, another viral clip showing the expressway snaking through clouds stirred awe across platforms, reinforcing its status as a milestone in modern Indian infrastructure.
