Fintech startup Slice has opened what it calls India’s inaugural UPI-enabled physical bank branch in Bengaluru’s Koramangala, offering a completely digital banking setup. The branch, located on 80 Feet Road—a hub for startups—lets customers deposit and withdraw cash purely via UPI, replacing traditional debit cards.
Equipped with self-service kiosks, the facility allows individuals to open savings accounts on tablets and navigate the premises with assistance from a robot guide. A viral video shared by the account ‘Peak Bengaluru’ showcased the branch’s unique approach, describing it as a “full-blown UPI bank branch” with no paper forms or card swipes.
Slice has also introduced a UPI-linked credit card that charges no joining or annual fees. The card enables QR code payments directly from a credit line, offers up to 3% cashback, and features the ‘slice in 3’ option for splitting purchases into three interest-free instalments.
The branch aims to serve as a pilot project for broader adoption of UPI-powered banking formats across India. Customers can complete essential tasks—cash transactions and account creation—with minimal staff involvement.
Reactions online have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the branch for simplifying banking. Influencer duo Abhi and Niyu hailed it as a “proud moment for innovation,” noting that the digital process reduces wait times and eliminates paperwork.
