A 26-year-old software engineer lost her life and her colleague suffered serious injuries after their motorcycle collided head-on with a car allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver in Bengaluru’s HAL Traffic Police Station limits during the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Krishnashree, a native of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, who was employed at a software company and resided in a paying guest accommodation in Ashwathnagar, Marathahalli.

Woman thrown off bridge in fatal crash

According to preliminary investigations, Krishnashree was travelling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle ridden by her colleague Avinash, a resident of Hassan.

Police said the motorcycle was allegedly being ridden against one-way traffic on the Marathahalli bridge when it collided with a speeding car at around 2.15 am.

The impact threw Krishnashree off the bridge, causing her to fall nearly 15 feet onto the service road below. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Avinash sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Car driver detained, cases registered

Police detained the car driver, identified as Suresh, who is also a software engineer.

A senior police officer said Suresh was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving at a high speed when the accident occurred.

The HAL Traffic Police have registered a case against Suresh for rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol. He was later produced before a magistrate.

Police have also booked Avinash for allegedly riding the motorcycle in the wrong direction.

After a post-mortem examination, Krishnashree’s body was handed over to her family. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
