A 45-year-old man was killed and his wife and daughter were seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run involving a speeding Audi car on Bengaluru’s northern outskirts, police said.

The incident reportedly took place near the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence on Tuesday night.

Family was returning from wedding

According to police, the deceased, identified as Mahesh Kumar, worked at a garment factory and was returning home to Kodagalahatti with his wife Kala and 13-year-old daughter Charvika after attending a wedding function.

The family was travelling on an electric scooter when the accident occurred around 8.50 pm.

Investigators said Mahesh reportedly moved slightly to the right to avoid a pothole on the road when a speeding Audi allegedly rammed into the scooter from behind.

Wife and daughter hospitalised

The impact reportedly threw all three family members onto the road. Mahesh died on the spot, while his wife and daughter sustained grievous injuries.

Police confirmed that both injured victims are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital and are said to be in stable condition.

CCTV footage fails to reveal registration number

Officials from the Chikkajala Police Station said CCTV cameras captured the accident, but the Audi’s high-beam headlights obscured the vehicle’s registration number, complicating identification efforts.

Police are now examining alternate leads and surveillance footage from nearby locations to trace the driver.

A case has been registered under charges related to causing death by negligence, and further investigation is underway.
