Bengaluru: A 17-year-old girl who had recently passed her SSLC examination died by suicide at her aunt’s residence in Bhairagowdanahalli village in Nelamangala on Friday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sandhya, who had secured 83 per cent in her SSLC exams. According to police, she was alone at home when the incident occurred, as family members had travelled to their native place due to her grandmother’s ill health.

Incident discovered after family returned

The incident came to light in the evening when relatives returned and found her unresponsive. Authorities were alerted immediately, and police reached the spot to begin preliminary investigations.

Sandhya had been staying with her aunt, Shailaja, for the past three years to pursue her education. Her father, Raghavendra, had recently obtained a college application form for her admission, indicating plans for her higher studies.

Death note recovered, reason unclear

Police said a note was recovered from the scene, in which she apologised to her father and mentioned the contact numbers of three friends, requesting that they be informed. However, no specific reason for her decision was mentioned in the note.

Preliminary findings suggest that the family had recently advised her against frequently going out with friends. Investigators are examining all possible angles to understand the circumstances leading to the incident.

Case registered, probe underway

Based on a complaint, Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case of unnatural death. Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact cause and any contributing factors.
