A shocking incident has come to light from Tavarekere on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where a two-year-old boy allegedly died after being slapped by his stepfather on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Mukhi. Police have arrested the accused, Dipu Singh (22), and registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Child allegedly assaulted during feeding
According to police, the incident occurred at a rented shed in Muthurayaswamy Layout, Seegehalli village, within Tavarekere police limits. Rakesh’s mother, Kunthala Mukhi, was feeding the child when he reportedly became restless and began crying.
Investigators said Dipu Singh allegedly took the child from his mother and slapped him forcefully. The boy collapsed and died on the spot.
A distressed Kunthala immediately alerted family members. The landlady’s son later arrived at the scene, found the child unresponsive, and lodged a complaint with the police.
Accused arrested, probe underway
Police said the accused is the child’s stepfather. Preliminary investigations revealed that Kunthala had moved from Odisha to Tavarekere with Dipu around three months ago. Dipu was employed at a nearby plastic factory and was staying with his sister’s family.
Officials stated that the child’s biological father resides in Odisha. Investigators are now examining the circumstances leading to the incident and whether the accused had any intention to cause fatal harm.
“The accused has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
