Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of being associated with the Pakistan-based Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) following a special operation in the Electronic City area.
Security guard held after police tip-off
The accused, identified as Asaful Mallick, a native of West Bengal, was working as a security guard at a reputed company in the Hebbagudi area. Police said he was arrested by Hebbagodi Police on August 11 following an intelligence tip-off.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City) Narayana M said Mallick was allegedly in contact with members of the banned outfit and had been spreading its ideology through social media.
Police said Mallick was living in Jigani, following which officers gathered further intelligence about his activities. He was subsequently taken into custody near the Bommasandra Industrial Area and questioned.
Police allege contact with TTP member
According to the police, Mallick came into contact with a TTP member from Afghanistan, identified as Imran Haider, and allegedly expressed an intention to join the banned organisation.
Investigators also said Mallick had several interactions with Haider through chats, voice calls and messages on his mobile phone. Police claimed that he had attempted to obtain a visa to travel to Afghanistan but abandoned the plan due to financial constraints and family responsibilities.
Police further alleged that Mallick was influenced by accounts of alleged atrocities by the Pakistan Army and was plotting an attack on the Pakistan Army.
Case registered under BNS
The TTP was listed by the United Nations Security Council in 2011 as an entity associated with Al-Qaida and has also been designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States.
Mallick has been booked under Section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with conspiring, attempting, abetting or knowingly facilitating a terrorist act or preparatory action.#Bengaluru #ElectronicCity #TTP #TerrorSuspect #BengaluruPolice #Karnataka #NewsKarnataka
