Bandipur: Forest authorities have launched an investigation after two motorcyclists from Tamil Nadu allegedly trespassed into the restricted safari route inside the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, putting themselves and wildlife at risk.
The incident was reported on Tuesday when the duo, riding a motorcycle, entered the safari track located about three kilometres from the old Bandipur campus at around 4.50 pm.
Tourists warn bikers, but they continue
According to forest officials, the motorcycle rider and the pillion passenger ignored safety norms by entering the protected forest area, where tigers and other wild animals are frequently sighted.
A group of tourists from Mysuru reportedly warned the duo against venturing into the restricted zone. However, the bikers allegedly ignored the warning and continued riding for nearly two kilometres inside the forest before returning along the same route.
The incident was captured on video by tourists, and the footage has since surfaced on social media.
Forest officials launch probe
By the time forest guards reached the spot, the bikers had reportedly escaped through the Kekkanahalla check post towards the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Forest officials noted the motorcycle’s registration number and shared the details with the Mudumalai Forest Department and the Tamil Nadu Police to help trace the suspects.
Action initiated
Bandipur Tiger Reserve Director L. Nandish has directed officials to identify the individuals involved and initiate appropriate legal action.
Forest authorities have once again appealed to visitors to strictly follow wildlife protection rules, warning that unauthorised entry into restricted areas not only violates forest laws but also poses a serious threat to human safety and wildlife conservation.
